Easter Already!

I don't know about where you live, but where I am, winter is still in full swing!  So it's hard to believe that Easter is only a few weeks away.  What will you create for your friends and family to make their Easter special?  Whether you celebrate for religious reasons or just look forward to coloring eggs and devouring candy, we have something for everyone.

Why not make cards for your loved ones?  Not just regular cards.  Cards that scream "LOVE!" not only because they're handmade, but also because they come with a special little treat!

With the aptly-named My Originals Sweet Surprises Card Kit, most of the work is already done - all you do is assemble, embellish, and make someone's day.  Everything you need for TEN CARDS for less than $20.  All you add is the sugary goodness.

For those who celebrate Easter as Resurrection Day, we have something for you too.  Why not send some thoughtful greetings with the He Is Risen stamp set?

If you're looking for something playful, we've got that covered, too.  How about the My Peeps set?  How adorable is this?!

Stamp with a base color, then fill in with pencils, markers, or nothing at all!

What will you create for the special day this year?

A Card for Mom

This card is a bit of a multi-tasker.  You could give it for Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, a birthday, or just because!  I have a very special recipient in mind for it...

I think Sonoma is my favorite paper pack from the last Idea Book, so I'm thrilled that it carried over to the new book!  Stock up on it now, because somewhere around July, it will become extinct!

I used the Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge, Sonoma paper packet (including cocoa cardstock for the body of the card).  I used Smokey Plum, Sweet Leaf and New England Ivy inks, the Keepsake Alphabet set to stamp "Mom," and the Rosy Regards set to make the flower.

If you have a Cricut and have not yet invested in the Art Philosophy cartridge, you need to do it!  NOW!  There are over 700 shapes and objects on this cartridge.   Not only that, it comes with three coordinating D-size stamp sets.  You just can't beat that.  To be honest, I am actually tempted to sell all my other cartridges and just use this one.  (Of course, I'd use the proceeds from those sales for more paper and stamps, because I'm a junkie!)

Now, to figure out how to avoid delivering this card early!

Hubby's Valentine's Day Card

One of the best things about crafting, for me, is being better able to tailor gifts to their recipients.  Especially for occasions like Valentine's Day!  I always used to buy my husband a card, but it's hard to find one that isn't all ooey-gooey.  He's a very sweet guy, but ooey-gooey isn't his style at all!

This year I decided to go with a brown and blue theme.

I used lagoon and cocoa cardstocks, cocoa ribbon, cocoa ink, cocoa baker's twine, a ribbon slide, and Mad About You, Love Ya! and Stitched Together stamp sets.  Hope he likes it!

SO EXCITED!

I just happen to know that my new order will be delivered TOMORROW!

Even better, I know that I get to make two customers' days tomorrow too, because their orders are in with mine.  What will we create with our new goodies?!

Perhaps a little February Stamp of the Month action for Valentine's Day?

Maybe bring out a carryover from the last Idea Book and have fun with Roxie?

I can tell you this - the item I am most excited about is my new Family Love stamp set from the new Idea Book.

After all... isn't that what it's all about?

Versatility in Our Projects

I think it's safe to say that I get in my own way a lot when it comes to my crafting.  I sometimes worry about how others will see my work, and if it's good enough.  I should be rejoicing in the fact that no matter what I create, it's perfect, because there's no right or wrong way to craft.  That's one thing I love about scrapbooking and cardmaking.  Everyone has their own style, their own taste, and their own favorite look.  And all of them are right!

Another thing I battle as a crafter is pigeon-holing myself into specific themes, patterns, or looks.  Jeanette Lynton, the head crafter (if you will) at CTMH, addressed this on her blog recently; see this post.  She points out that although the Cruisin' paper pack...

...in the new Idea Book is quite obviously geared toward travel or vacation themes, there are also tons of other things you can use it for!  Go check out her post and be amazed.

Another example of this sort of versatile thinking is shown in the following video.

Sure, I'll admit it, when I saw the dinosaur stamp set, it screamed "BOY!"  But just as I wouldn't keep my son from playing with a doll if he wanted to, this set doesn't have to be decidedly masculine!  And the sentiments in the stamp set are definitely gender-neutral.

These ideas gave me a lot of food for thought about the way I sometimes get stuck in boxes based on colors, shapes, or words that I run across.  Now I have something to work on that will pay off in the form of better art!  What do you need to work on improving when it comes to your crafting?

February Stamp of the Month

As if a brand new Idea Book didn't bring enough excitement to February, there's a really great Stamp of the Month to go along with it!

As someone who loves making cards, I am completely in love with this set.  From Valentine's cards to thank you's to graduation to just-because greetings, this set covers it all.  There are two ways you can get it: place a $50 order this month and get the set for only $5, or you can purchase it on its own for $17.95.

Don't wait!  These stamps are only available in February!

IDEA BOOK PREMIERE!

It's February 1st and that means the premiere of our brand new Spring/Summer 2012 Idea Book!  Ever since my first sneak peek at this book, I've been chomping at the bit to share it.  There are some really great new paper packs, stamps, accessories - you name it!

New paper kit themes for this Idea Book include:

Cruisin' - Road trip, anyone? I miss just-because road trips!

Florentine - The earthy feel of this one is lovely.

Footloose - Does this not make you long for the beach?! Ahh!

Lucy - So pretty for the princess in your life.

Pemberley - I love the mix of whimsy and classic color combos in this one.

Superhero - A paper pack perfectly suited to BOYS?! Oh, I'm so excited.

And my personal favorite...

Stella! - I just absolutely love this color scheme. It is elegant without being snobby,
and it's just beautiful!

Aren't those gorgeous?!  Stay tuned over the next few weeks, I'll be showcasing individual items from the new Idea Book and how you can use them to create beautiful projects of your own.
